The hierarchy of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned disqualified or defeated parliamentary candidates of the party not to think of contesting the 2020 polls as independent else ‘trouble will trouble’ them.

It has come to the notice of the party executives that some disgruntled candidates who were either defeated in the recently held primaries or couldn’t successfully pass the vetting before the primaries have decided to register their grievances by contesting the 2020 general elections as independent candidates.

Some names have popped up in that regard, notable amongst them are s Joy Joycelyn Andoh in the Tarkwa Nsueam Constituency of the Western Region and Member of Parliament (MP) of the Fomena Constituency, Hon. Andrews Amoako Asiamah.

To this end, the National Organizer of the party Sammi Awuku has told the media that any person who does not obey the party’s rules and regulations will be expelled from the party. ‘There are a lot of sanctions against such persons. One of it is forfeiting your membership or expulsion from the party, he revealed. The leadership further warned that it would physically prevent persons who were either disqualified or defeated to go independent.

Meanwhile, there was flagrant display of vote-buying and opulence at the just ended elections which was recorded at the just ended NPP primaries. Although this phenomenon is not new within the political circles, the level of ostentation displayed at the just ended NPP primaries is unarguably unprecedented.

Another interesting thing recorded was when one of the defeated contestants, Eric Amankwa Blay who contested in the Parliamentary primaries at Assin North constituency shocked Ghanaians after he reportedly took back 250 bicycles he shared freely to delegates prior to the election to each of the polling stations in the constituency. He secured 44 votes against the incumbent MP Abena Duruwa Mensah who polled 389 votes.

This infuriated him so much that he went back for the bike after his abysmal performance. According to him, the unit cost of the bicycle is ¢300. Apart from the bicycles, Mr Blay claims to have shared ¢200 and ¢500 to each delegate and constituency executives to endorse his candidature but failed to do so.
