According to an autopsy report, Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old black male, had 46 gunshot wounds or graze injuries on his body when he was shot by police in Ohio, US, last month for allegedly breaking the law.

On Friday, July 15, the medical examiner stated that it was impossible to determine which bullet killed Jayland Walker or the entire number of rounds fired.

The news was released after hundreds attended Wednesday’s memorial service in Akron.

Since Walker’s passing, there have been several anti-police riots and skirmishes, which have put the city on edge. In the midst of almost daily protests, local officials declared a curfew on Friday night.

Walker suffered critical injuries to his heart, lungs, and arteries in the gunshot on June 27 in the city of Akron, according to the medical examiner’s postmortem report.

He died at the conclusion of an attempted traffic stop that started with minor equipment violations but quickly turned into a six-minute police pursuit.

According to authorities, he fired one shot while being chased before police started shooting at him from several angles.

Authorities described the gesture he made before being shot as “threatening,” but the video is too hazy to clearly see it.

Walker was defenseless at the time, though, and his family has claimed via attorneys that there was no need to kill him.

In the driver’s seat of his car, police discovered an unloaded revolver, one clip of ammo, and a wedding band.

At first glance, Walker’s body had more than 60 wounds. Dr. Lisa Kohler, the medical examiner for Summit County, stated that it was “extremely feasible” that one gunshot might have resulted in many entrance wounds.

The eight cops who took part in the shooting—seven of them white and one black—are on paid leave while the state of Ohio conducts an investigation.

According to the local police union in Ohio, the officers responded in accordance with their training because they believed they were in immediate danger of significant harm.
