Former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings has reportedly closed his offices over Covid-19 fears as the dreadful pandemic continues to leave a devastating effect in its trail. Jerry John Rawlings announced the closure of his offices indefinitely, adding that the move is to safeguard the health of his staff and prospective clients from the disease.

In an official statement he released, the charismatic former leader said the situation will be reviewed in two weeks while urging all Ghanaians to stick to all the protocols prescribed by health officials. He further instructed all persons who want to contact him to use the official email address provided.

A portion of the statement reads: “The decision which is aimed at protecting staff and potential visitors will be reviewed after two weeks. The former President once again urges all Ghanaians to be mindful of their personal discipline and care as we work to combat the disease. He calls on all to wear their masks, maintain appropriate social distancing, cough etiquette, and general hygiene protocols.”

The Covid-19 situation in Ghana has escalated in recent times resulting in the sad demise of former General Secretary of the NPP Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John who died shortly after testing positive for Covid-19. Other stalwarts of the NPP like Peter Mac Manu and Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo has also tested positive.

The Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu is also currently recovering from the disease that had him hospitalized for a few days ago while the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby; former Deputy Trade and Industry Ministry Minister Carlos Ahenkorah have also contracted the disease.

Aside from Sir John who have died from the disease, Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor, Kobina Kurentsi Sam also died at the University of Ghana Medical Centre after being rushed there for treatment for Covid-19. See below for the latest update on coronavirus in Ghana as of July 9, 2020.
