The 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana was dissolved yesterday, 6th January 2021 to pave way for the start of the 8th Parliament.

One would have expected with high esteem, how dignify and matured the Parliamentarians who forms the Legislature of the Black Star land, would have respected and conducted themselves to hold in high esteem the first House of the land.

However, Ghanaians were hugely disappointed in their Members of Parliament (MP) over the disgraceful political show they put on yesterday in the House.

Below are 5 things that you should know happened and were cased by both NPP and NDC MPs yesterday during the dissolving of the 7th Parliament.

1 Fight Over Majority Sitting In Parlaiment

One disgraceful action that took place in Parliament yesterday was NDC and NPP Mps fight over who sits at the majority position in the House for the 8th Parliament.

In the House, the Majority Cacus is positioned on the right hand side of the Speaker of Parliament whiles the Minority sit on the the left.

Since both parties are claiming to have won Majority of Seats, the NPP before parliament sitting yesterday, allotted the majority seats for themselves by placing their name against the desks.

The NDC on the other hand came in to remove all the NPP MPs names from the Majority Arena and took over the place claiming to be the Majority cacus of the 8th Parliament.

2 Ballot Box Snatching

As The 1992 Constitution stipulates, the Speaker of Parliament and its Deputies are to be voted upon.

After the voting, the electoral commission in charge begun the counting of the votes.

But the unexpected situation happened where MP for Tema East, Carlos Ahenkrah caused confusion by snatching the ballot paper. Other MP’s chaces him for the papers.

3. NDC Makes Alban Bagbin Speaker Of Parliament

Alban Bagbin, Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli Kaleo has been elected as the Speaker of Parliament as he won by 138 votes against former occupant Mike Oquaye.

The NDC made, the elected MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson who parades himself as an MP despite being kicked out by the Cape Coast High court from swearing-in voted

NPP candidate, Aaron Mike Oquaye had136 votes and lost to NDC’s Alban Bagbin who had 138. There was one spoilt ballot.

4 Ursula Vrs Kwabena Mintah

The two MPs-Elect also made headlines with their childish act they put on display yesterday.

MP for Ablekusma West, Ursula Ekuful Owusu fought with Juaboso MP Kwabena Mintah Akandoh Akandoh in an awkward mood in parliament as she chose to sit on his lap for several hours.

The two were fighting over a seat and they did that for several hours which caught the eye of the media.

5 Millitary Intervention

After the long conflict , of noise making and needless debate among the honorable members, the military and the police had to intervene to calm down situation in the House of Parliament.

More than 50 armed military men and police intervene to ensure order in teh House .
