Ghanaian highlife musician Kwasi Poku Addae, better known by the stage name Kwaisey Pee has criticized the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy).

The topic of the E-levy has been the topic of discussion for weeks. Parliamentarians have gone back and forth in parliament over the passing of the e-levy. Ghanaians have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the e-levy.

During the reading of the budget, the finance minister Ken Ofori announced in parliament the intention to implement the bill where 1.75% will be taxed on digital transactions. He disclosed that the implementation of the e-levy will widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the artist said, “If we are going to talk about the E-levy, we are going to need a whole day. However, I think it’s a little bit too much. I also think it needs to be scrapped because it doesn’t make sense”.
