By Executive Instrument, President Nana Akufo-Addo in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601) has declared Monday, 25th May, 2020 as a Public Holiday.
This is because Sunday 24 May 2020 marks Eid al-Fitr which is a statutory holiday.
Eid al-Fitr also called the “Festival of Breaking the Fast”, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
A statement signed by the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery said the holiday “should be observed as such throughout the country.”
As it has always been done, because the holiday falls on a weekend, the next working day which is Monday, 25th has been declared a public holiday.
