Ghanaian Olympian, Prince Amartey is now bedridden and this comes as a shock to Ghanaians because this name is one of the names that come up when people who have won medals for Ghana at the Olympic Games are being mentioned.

He won bronze for the country at the 1972 Olympics, however, things have become so bad for him that he can barely feed himself.

His story went viral about a week ago and the Ghana Armed Forces have gone to his aid as they have set up a mini-mart for him.

This was shared by renowned Ghanaian journalist, Saddick Adams. The post he made reads;

“STORIES I LOVE TO READ
Before this Olympics, the last time Ghana won an individual medal at the Olympic Games was in 1972. This man in wheelchair, Prince Amartey, won that bronze for Ghana in boxing, 49 yeaars ago.
Following stories about his unfortunate state in the Volta region, the Ghana Armed Forces have quickly moved in and within a week, established an shop for him as a source of livelihood. The Amartey Mini Mart is located at the Ho Barracks, for supervision and security purposes.
The 77 year old Olympian who is now bedridden, was a member of the GAF as a Lance Corporal but was excused from after he encountered mental health challenges.
This is indeed a nice gesture for a man who served well. Kudos to the media and GAF!!
