Vice President His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has asked the people of Bono Region to not believe in the promise of Presidential Candidate of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama of expanding Free Senior High School (Free SHS) because, he never believed in the educational policy and said it was impossible.
The Vice President has said this in an interview with Sunyani-based Nimdie FM on Thursday 24 September, 2020 as he toured in the Bono Region, campaigning for the upcoming general elections on December 7.
” How can you say you will expand Free SHS when you did not believe in it? …Mahama said Free SHS is a hoax. He said it was 419 and he said it is impossible. But after President Akufo-Addo successfully implemented it for the benefit of Ghanaians, he is now going round telling Ghanaians that he will expand it to private schools if Ghanaians vote for him.”

According to Mr. Bawumai, the NDC when in power in 2016, campaigned against Free SHS policy and deemed it impossible because the country had no economic strength to carry out the educational policy.
However, the NDC is debating that they never considered Free SHS as impossible, but they rolled out the poly in a “Progressive Free SHS” as a strategic way of implementing the Free Basic Education for Ghanaians which is enshrined in the constituition of Ghana.
Moreover, Vice President on speaking on the challenges of the policy, said the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has to build educational infrastructure to control student congestion in classrooms.
Howerver, the opposition NDC said the NPP government has intentionally abandoned the ” Community Day Schools” that Mahama built across the country to solve the congestion problem.
Nevertheless, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is asking Ghanaians not to believe in the promise of Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama. He urged the people of Bono Region and Ghanaians to vote against the NDC, and for the NPP at the polls on December 7.
