Speaking in an interview on TV3 with Berla Mundi, the singer lamented that he has been grabbing nominations and winning from various award schemes outside the country but he fails to replicate that in his own country, Ghana.

The musician, born Gregory Bortey Newman said that most of his fans believed he deserved to win in some of the categories he was nominated in but he is yet to identify the reason behind his constant losses at the VGMAs after 2019.

King Promise also revealed that his inability to develop a good bond with some of the industry players and some platforms in the country might have contributed to his loss at the VGMA and other Ghanaian award schemes.

However, the “Chop Life” hitmaker also said that he does not equate success to accolades or awards but believes as long as his music serves its purpose by getting to the people and making the impact that is expected.

That is not to dispute the fact that winning awards makes an artiste happy and content and for him to be nominated for artiste of the year in every year’s VGMAs, he believes he is doing well with his craft and that is a huge victory for him.
