Beautiful news anchor and TV personality, Nana Aba Anamoah who has been single mum for many years is really furious about the way society puts pressure on women to marry. In an interview with Kwaku Simtim Misa (KSM), the outspoken newscaster wondered why people continue to hold on to this ‘archaic’ and ‘stupid’ belief. She believes this unnecessary pressure is the reason why there are a lot of divorces in the country.

“That is so archaic and stupid. I wonder why you’re only ticked complete when you’re married. So the hard work, waking up at dawn doing research, toiling, sweating, you mean that doesn’t count…?”

“That is why a lot of people are married and the divorce rate is so high, and until we get men not to speak the same way like some men speak and women who feel they are married so everyone woman should be married. Then it means I am on TV and every lady should be. There is pressure on them to settle down.”

Honestly I agree with Nana Aba wholeheartedly. Marriage is should not be a yardstick to measure one’s pedigree or legacy. The sickening cases where chauvinist men, and to some extent even women use the subject of marriage to taunt women is very primitive.

In build up to the election last year, The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary Candidate for the Awutu Senya West constituency, George Andah, mocked his female opponent Hanna Tetteh who was then incumbent Member of Parliament, Hanna Tetteh, as the race for the seat heats up.

Mr. Andah at mini rally at Bawjiase in the Central Region challenged Hanna Tetteh to introduce her husband to the constituents. “I came here with my wife, and children. Please tell Hanna to also come and show us her husband,” he said. Mr. Andah, who is a first timer aspiring for the seat, invited his wife to the stage and introduced her to the party supporters; who had gathered at the rally amidst cheers and applauds.
