Ghanaian songstress Belinda Ekua Amoah known in the music industry as Mzbel has revealed the reason why she took to bleaching some years back.
According to Mzbel, she had the perception that being a black woman means you are ugly and dirty. She therefore took to bleaching her skin to look lighter in complexion. Mzbel has advised everyone to be proud of their skin colour because bleaching had side effects and also the perception of bleaching contributes to self hate and inferiority complex.
In 2019, Mzbel in an interview with Abeiku Santana on “ATUU” disclosed that she has been jumping from one church to the other to get a cure for her skin bleach.
She wrote on her Instagram page…..
“I used to think I was ugly. I thought being black is dirty, so I took to skin bleaching and suffered horrible side effects years later. But that is the result of self-hate. I shared my story and got help, now I’ve learned to say: ‘You know what? I am a beautiful black woman.
