Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata has revealed he used to smoke during his days in secondary school.

Speaking at an interview on Pan African TV, the lawyer who turned heads at the just ended supreme court ruling on the 7th December presidential elections said he was the only student who was given permission to smoke on campus.

According to him, he is an asthmatic patient and as a result, he was given asthmatic cigarettes which he had to smoke to ease the pain and repel any attack which could lead to his death.

While speaking of the ailment which he still has to date, he said the permission given him earned him huge respect on campus on also made him the favourite among his mates especially the bad guys who smoked other substances in school.

He recounted times they begged him for a stick and join him to smoke. While he smoked his asthmatic cigarette, they will be smoking weed and other substances and use the asthmatic stick as a backup to defend themselves in case they get caught.

The other aspect of it is that in those days I was quite asthmatic and I’m still asthmatic. In those days, one of the asthma medications was the asthma cigarettes which you inhale and those sought of helped clear the system of asthma.”

I became a favourite of some of the bad boys in school because they saw that I was the only person who was allowed to smoke so occasionally they would come for a stick of asthma cigarettes in the hope that if they are caught smoking they would say that it’s the asthma cigarette. I was the only person that had authorisation to smoke. I became their friends because they needed my cigarette to show that they also had asthma,”
