American singer, The Weeknd has reportedly announced plans boycott the Grammys award henceforth following snub by the awards scheme in the 2021 nominations.
The Weeknd’s song ‘Blinding Lights’ was a hit that broke chart records, yet it failed to be nominated and this including other concerns have raised questions about the integrity and fairness of the scheme and artistes such as Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Drake have lamented bitterly about the racial bias by Grammy awards bias.
In a newly-released statement by the New York Times, he said that he would boycott the awards going forward.
“Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.” The Weeknd said
Harvey Mason Jr., a producer and songwriter who is the academy’s interim chief executive, said the organization is dedicated to improving itself.
Mason said in response to the Weeknd’s statement.
“We’re all disappointed when anyone is upset,”
“But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees.”
