Budding singer Kimmy thinks Dancehall, Hiphop, and Afrobeat are the only genres that can catapult an emerging artiste to prominence.

In that regard, Kimmy says High-life which is the indigenous music and identity of Ghana won’t offer the same benefit. ‘Most upcoming artistes are looking for a fast breakthrough in the music industry and you won’t be recognized easily if you decide to do Highlife,’ Kimmy said in an interview with GNA.

‘For many young and upcoming female artistes following the recent trends of music in the country remain the ultimate ticket of success, the opportunities in pursuing Highlife is very narrow.’ Kimmy who is currently promoting her debut single ‘Yonko’ says she is optimistic of making a major breakthrough in the industry despite how competitive it is.

In a related development, Article W an has embarked on a new project to nurture the talent of budding artistes and give them the pedestal to shine.

The mainstream artiste who specializes in Reggae/Dancehall and Afro-fusion revealed this in an interview with Cookie Tee on the New Day show on TV3. He said: ‘You know we were all helped to this level, although I didn’t get much help when I was coming up but when I sit back and watch the industry and then set my ears to the ground, we’ve got a lot of up and coming who needs our help and when we are able to push them, as in pushing them from the ground, trust me we are never going to regret.’

So I decided to put a challenge, drop a beat with a chorus, put it online and I had a lot of talents jumping on it. So I and my team sat down and selected the best six, of which five are from Ghana, one is from the UK. We did the recording, shot the video, and blasted it everywhere and it’s gradually picking up.’
