Abuga Pele, a former national coordinator for the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), has stated that he will go back to court after being released from prison to prove his innocence of any charges of corruption.

He claims that since being imprisoned, his personality has been associated with corruption, a reputation he would work to remove.

Following President Akufo Addo’s acceptance of a presidential pardon, Pele was freed from prison in July 2021.

After a four-year trial, he was sentenced to prison in 2018 on charges of corruption and causing the state to lose money.

Even though he is again a free man, he adds that this is insufficient and declares his determination to pursue a second appeal to have his name cleansed of any wrongdoing.

He bared on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga:

“To clear my name. I believe strongly and I still sit here and say that I have never been corrupt in any off that I was asked to serve,”

Pele acknowledged that he has held jobs where there were obvious opportunities for him to be dishonest and acquire fortune, but he upheld his integrity and refused to take big payments.

“When I was on a commission to investigate players transfer, that was a very volatile area. People attempted to influence us and I resisted,” he added.
