A celebrated Kenyan journalist Makena Njeri has disclosed her status and has said that she is gay and proud to be one.

The former British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) journalist Makena Njeri has been hit with several rumors and controversies on her sexuality. This has made the journalist come out to disclose her status to kill all controversies. She has however opened up in an interview.

During a live show on TedX over the weekend, Makena disclosed that she is gay and it has taken her so many years to gather the courage to make it public and also for her to accept who she is. It would be recalled that the lover of Makena once vandalized her car after she made allegations that Makena was cheating on her with her best friend Michelle Ntalami.

According to Makena, the issue which went viral on social media almost led her into depression. She also disclosed she received over a thousand messages with over five hundred missed calls. “I remember that cold morning of July in 2019 when I woke up and looked at my phone. I’d over 1000 messages and 500 missed calls. My blood went cold. I knew something was wrong” she recounted.

“I remember for the first time in my life after very many years, I looked at the mirror and said to myself ‘I am gay, I am unique and this is my truth’. I felt a weight lifted off my chest. I was finally free and whole. This was a victory for me but what I did not know was this was a choice to be bold.” Makena said.
