For the past few days, one of the trending Ghanaian personalities has been Jackie Appiah and she started trending when a video of her expensively magnificent house hit the internet.
While many people were praising her, there are others who saw the need to criticize her as they feel that she can’t achieve such a feat just through acting.
Many people have shared their thoughts on the claim made by these critics and the latest to share her thoughts is Bridget Otoo.
Taking to her verified social media handle on the popular social media platform, Twitter, she said;
“It is so pathetic that a woman cannot work close to 20 years in an industry and earn a decent living. Jackie Appiah has one of the most recognizable faces in Africa, she’s been in 100’s of movies in Ghana and abroad. She’s also the face of several products globally.
A lot of celebrities earn more money from endorsement deals than their core jobs. That’s why Federer will not play tennis in a year and still earn $50 million dollars. None of that matters because she’s a woman and so if she’s made it, it has to be because she “slept with men”
Jackie Appiah was the face of BO16 for so many years, featured in several ads, hair products, foods, washing powder .. featured on several billboards! Do you think she wasn’t making money off these?
You all have sisters and mothers, watch the rubbish you spew cos it would bite you one day… Gosh, I’ve been in advertising and I know you can even buy a car from being a voice over artist for one particular products if you sign a long term contract. Not to talk of being the face several brands! I hope one day she sues to make an example of one.
Meanwhile if you compare Jackie to her peers on the continent, whether in SA or Nigeria, you would realize she doesn’t have as much. Why do we create hate out of someone’s hard-work? Why must someone’s sweat be reduced to sex? Is that what your parents do?
The fact that you people make everything abt gender is the core reason u don’t reach this so called equality. Why are you acting like men are held to different standards in such instances. Source of worth has being questioned abt the likes of Despite, Cheddar, Medikal etc But when same is done to a woman then the gender card will be played. You want equality this is part of the mud that comes with the rain. Deal with it!!!”
