The death of WBTV’s Meteorologist, Jason Myers was reported on Tuesday November 22nd, 2022 in the afternoon after he was involved in an helicopter crash.

The crash was said to have caused the death of two persons; Jason Myers and Sky3 pilot Chip Tayag. According to reports to WBTV’s official website, the tragic accident happened near Interstate 77 at the Nations Ford Road exit.

Tayag who had flown the WBTV helicopter for over 2,000 hours in his five years with TTWN and had accumulated over 3,700 total flight hours also lost his life in the process.

WBTV released an official statement confirming the tragedy to the general public, saying that they are working to comfort the bereaved families of their two staff workers who met their untimely death through this tragedy.

Jason was born in Salisbury, a city in England. He spent time growing up in Union and Catawba counties, before graduating from high school in Davidson County.

Jason Myers Cause of Death

Jason Myers was reported to have been involved in an helicopter crash near Interstate 77 at the Nations Ford Road exit.

Myer died alongside Sky3 pilot Chip Tayag who was piloting the helicopter before they crashed to their death. The reason behind the crash is still unknown to the general public.

An official statement released by WBTV confirmed the demise of the two staff workers as they reveal that they are doing everything within their power to comfort the bereaved families.

“The WBTV family is grieving a terrible loss. Our news helicopter Sky3 crashed mid-day Tuesday with two of our colleagues on board. Meteorologist Jason Myers and pilot Chip Tayag lost their lives. We are working to comfort their families in this difficult time. We appreciate the outpouring of support for our staff and your continued prayers for their families”, the statement reads.

The Total Traffic and Weather network also released a statement about the demise of Chip Tayaq saying; “We always said that if we could duplicate Chip and his piloting skills, his organization abilities, and attention to detail, our company would be better off. He always cared about the job he was doing and strived to make all his passengers comfortable while covering the news in Charlotte.

The Police Chief of  Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Johnny Jennings also confirmed the news and sou8ght for prayers from the public on behalf of the bereaved families.

“Tragically there are two people who will not be going home and spending the holidays with their loved ones. I ask that we pray for the families.”

Funeral dates and arrangements for Jason Myers and Chip Tayaq has not been communicated to the public yet.
