Jaylen Smith, Meet The Youngest Mayor In USA

The United States of America has had its youngest political officer holder in the history of the country politics.

Jaylen Smith, an 18-year-old college freshman has been elected s the new mayor in a Arkansas town after he defeated his opponent, Nemi Matthew Sr. for the political position.

Smith who was shocked at his own victory after the election will be the mayor of Earle, a town of just under 2,000 people, according to 2020 census data, near Memphis, Tennessee.

Before the runoff election on Tuesday, Smith stated that he was confident of his victory at the end of t he election and truly, he managed to emerge as winner of the election.

After his victory, Smith stated that he wants to use his triumph to inspire the young generation to be the changes they want to see in their communities.

“It would be good for more young people to step up to the plate and say, ‘I want to be the change. I want to be the leader people want to see in my community”, he said.

According to The Hills, Jaylen Smith amassed 218 votes while his opponent, Nemi Matthews Sr., won 139, making him the mayor-elect of Earle, a small town in Arkansas.

Smith claimed that his fellow members of the student government association had encouraged him to consider running for mayor at the beginning of his senior year. He asserted that he is fully aware of the historic significance of his victory.

“It feels awesome. Generations and generations of people will read about this historical moment,” he confidently said.

Smith stated that as mayor-elect, he will now prioritize transit, public safety, and bringing a sizable grocery store to the city. Smith said he is particularly passionate about improving residents’ access to food sources.

Pouring out his sentiments about the lack of grocery shops in the town, Smith said that the elderly folks in the town do not have transportation to go to West Memphis to get food, hence the need for a public grocery store in the town.

The young politician said the win is extremely significant to him as a person diagnosed with a learning disability. Smith said his disability makes it hard for him to do well on standardized tests.
