The eldest daughter of Bill and Melinda Gates, Jennifer Gates has reacted to her billionaire parents’ decision to divorce after 27 years of marriage. The divorce of the billionaire couple was announced on Monday, May, 4.

Taking to the microblogging platform on Monday, the duo declared their intentions to divorce owing to the fact that they had been making various kinds of efforts to save their relationship for some time.

Reacting to the sudden divorce from her parents, Jennifer described the divorce as a big blow to her and a “challenging stretch of time”.

She asked for privacy as “navigate the next phases of our lives”.

“Hi friends by now many of you have heard the news that my parents are sepersting”

“It’s been a challenging stretch of time for the whole family”

“I’m still learning how to best support my own process and emotions as well as my family members at this time and am grateful for the space to do so,” Jennifer wrote.

“I won’t personally comment further on anything around the separation.

Jennifer noted that the touching words and support from people “mean the world to her”.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates is rated number 4 on the list of richest people in the world, and he is estimated to be worth $US130.5 billion ($A168 billion), according to Forbes.

Jennifer, 25, Rory, 21 and Phoebe 18 are the children of the estranged couple. The eldest, Jennifer got engaged to Nayel Nassar in January 2020. Nayel Nassar is a professional Egyptian equestrian rider and also a Stanford graduate.

Bill Gates, in 2017 said on a Reddit Ask Me Anything segment that his children would inherit only $10 million of his fortune. He said;

“I definitely think leaving kids massive amounts of money is not a favour to them. Warren Buffett was part of an article in Fortune talking about this in 1986 before I met him and it made me think about it and decide he was right,”
