A South African man drank an entire bottle of gin in less than two minutes, to the point of death, in a bid to win a £10 wager.

Reports revealed that the deceased (name withheld) reportedly went to the bar in Mashamba Village, Limpopo, took part in the challenge but passed out after almost completing the 35 percent bottle of alcohol.

The man, who was between the ages of 25 and 30, was brought to the hospital after fainting and was later declared dead.

Additional sources state that an investigation into his death has been initiated.

Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo, a spokeswoman for the Limpopo police, was cited as saying:

“Police in Waterval outside Louis Trichardt have opened a case of inquest following an incident of apparent misuse of alcohol that took place at one of the local liquor outlets at Mashumba Village where the patrons allegedly participated in what they called a ‘drinking competition.

“The winner who could consume the entire bottle of Jägermeister within a specified time, would get R200 cash.

“One of them immediately collapsed thereafter and was taken to the local clinic where he was certified dead.”
