Speaking in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on the Delay Show, AK Songstress revealed that even though she was doing dancehall when she emerged into the music scene, she believes that Afrobeat was what ushered him to prominence.

She explained that she has had over 50 singles ever since she emerged into the music scene but her most popular song “Jonathan” was her breakthrough hit which ushered her to fame and expanded her territories.

However, the reason why she switched from dancehall to Afrobeat was that the image portrayed to Ghanaians when it comes to dancehall music is not the true image of dancehall, therefore, many people did not understand her style since she was doing purely dancehall.

The kind of dancehall our predecessors have introduced to the masses is not what dancehall is about but I stuck to doing pure dancehall which my people will not understand and I wasted so much time on it”, she said.

She also revealed that her style of music would have led many to rate her in the music industry with some people thinking she has no talent but since she switched to Afrobeat, she is now rated as one of the best female vocalists in Ghana.
