About Peter Obi

Peter Obi is a Nigerian businessman and politician who served as the governor of Anambra State in Nigeria from 2006 to 2014. He was born on July 19, 1961, in Onitsha, a city in Anambra State.

In the early 1990s, Obi ventured into business and became a successful entrepreneur. He established several companies in the areas of real estate, construction, and trading. He is also known for his philanthropy, particularly in the areas of education and health.

In 2006, Obi entered politics and successfully ran for governor of Anambra State. During his tenure as governor, he made several significant contributions to the development of the state. He implemented policies that improved education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and also fostered economic development.

One of his key achievements as governor was his successful implementation of a program called “Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy”, which was aimed at improving the standard of living of the people of Anambra State. The program was focused on creating jobs, increasing access to basic services, and promoting economic development.

Obi’s tenure as governor was also marked by his efforts to combat corruption. He implemented measures to ensure transparency and accountability in government, and also established a public procurement process that ensured that all contracts were awarded through open and competitive bidding.

Obi’s time as governor was not without controversy, however. He was criticized for his handling of some issues, such as the state’s finances, and there were also allegations of corruption against him. Despite this, he remained popular among the people of Anambra State and was re-elected as governor in 2010.

After completing his second term as governor in 2014, Obi decided not to seek re-election. Instead, he chose to focus on his business and philanthropic activities. He remains an influential figure in Nigerian politics, and is often called upon to provide his insights and expertise on various issues affecting the country.

During the 2019 presidential elections, he was the running mate of PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, however, they failed to win the elections. He wanted to lead the PDP in the 2023, however, the PDP settled for Atiku once again and this forced him to ditch the PDP to join the Labour Party where he was made the flagbearer.
