Without doubt, Akatakyie was one of the most consistent groups in the early stages of Hiplife. The duo has with several hits to their credit but ironically whilst their songs were popular, they were not!

That could plausibly explain their ‘extinction’ from the game and why they are hardly given due recognition.

Akatakyie is made up of two brothers, Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning (Kobby Culture) and Ebenezer Kwasi Okyere Asumaning (King Pharoah).

In a radio interview, the brothers explained that executive music producers at the time were only interested in the sale of the album, not the welfare and the image of the musician.

They said:

“They put lots of money in the promotion of the song, the song becomes a hit all over, what happens to the musician who sang the song?”

The musician may be struggling for what he/she will eat and picking trotro or public transport all around.

In our situation, our producer never bought a vehicle or an apartment for us, we bought our own cars, our music was rather doing very well, but our image as Akatakyie was left behind. Our welfare was not well taken care of.”
