Owen Tippett was born on February 16, 1999, and the Florida Panthers selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Owen Tippett was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Growing up, he showed a strong interest in ice hockey, and his aptitude on the rink was clear from an early age.

Tippett is the first cousin to Montreal Canadiens player Mitchell Stephens. He is not related to longtime NHL head coach Dave Tippett.

Tippett, known for his natural goal-scoring ability, began his junior hockey career with the Mississauga Steelheads in 2015 and rapidly rose to prominence. Despite brief appearances with the Florida Panthers, he maintained his junior hockey career until being dealt to the Saginaw Spirit.

Tippett was dealt in March 2022 to the Philadelphia Flyers. He agreed to a two-year contract deal with the Flyers in July 2022. Tippett is not connected to NHL coach Dave Tippett but shares a family connection as the first cousin of Montreal Canadiens player Mitchell Stephens.

Tippett finished the 2018–19 season with the Saginaw Spirit following a mid-season trade. In his first game with the Spirit on January 5, 2019, Tippett scored an empty net goal and added an assist in a 5–2 win over the Kitchener Rangers. 

After a successful practice camp for the Panthers, Tippett made the starting evening roster of the 2017-18 season. After a brief stint as a healthy scratch Tippett was able to make the NHL debut in the Panthers and scored seven shots in a dazzling performance in a 5-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on October 17 the 17th of October, 2017.

Tippett enjoyed a tremendous year in 2016-17, scoring 44 goals which was the highest score for the team. He also ranked his team in fifth place in the OHL with 75 points in the 60 games for the Steelheads which helped the team to finish in the top spot within the Central Division. 

Tippett returned to the Steelheads in 2017–18 after beginning the season with the Florida Panthers. In 51 games with Mississauga, Tippett scored 36 goals to lead the club, and earned 75 points. On January 4, Tippett recorded his first career OHL hat trick, scoring three goals in the first period against Tyler Johnson in a 4–3 shootout victory over the Sault Ste.
