Born Andre Hugh Sutherland, Popcaan is regarded as a multi-talented entertainer who has skills in disc jockey, a songwriter, and one of the most renowned Dancehall artists in the world of music right now.

It’s revealed that Popcaan in 2007 approached top Jamaican Reggae/ Dancehall Vybz Kartel at a local jam called ‘My Scheme’ where the Dancehall superstar recruited the young and upcoming disc jockey to his Portmore Empire music group.

He started recording songs under the label but the biggest moment in his music career came in 2021 after he released ‘Clarks’ featuring his record label boss, Vybz Kartel. The song won him several awards including the Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Award for Best New Artist, Collaboration of the Year, and also won the Dancehall Song of the Year.

Well, Popcaan has revealed he will be in Ghana to launch his next studio album and has invited anyone who wishes to join him to follow him to Ghana. He took to his official Twitter page and wrote; “i’m doing my next album launch in Ghana and everyone’s AKWABA

Recall there was a controversy in the Ghanaian media circles earlier this year after Popcaan quizzed his fans on Twitter whether to drop a collaboration with Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale or not.

Some blogs twisted the tweet suggesting Popcaan was requesting a collaboration with Shatta Wale. Shatta Wale later came out to slam such blogging sites for their twisted headlines.
