It has never been the reason you have all harboured all this while— people have come up with all sort of funny stories as to why rapper Sarkodie actually stopped using the phrase “niggas on block”.
We have lived passed the days where almost all Sark’s songs had a line or two of this very phrase somewhere in the lyrics and it is not because he got rich and forgot about his Niggas on the block.
According to him, radio presenters started complaining that the word “nigga” is a swear word and as such not radio friendly hence his decision to stop saying it.
Adding this:
“I didn’t put that song out myself. It was leaked my the Possigee. You know in the studio, when creativity hit you like that, you just have to let it go as in controlling your choice of words.
But yes, we now have the radio edit, and that’s the same reason I stopped saying ‘to my niggas on the block’. Radio presenters and DJs kept complaining that the word is not radio friendly, so I just have to stop saying it in my songs.”
