Rosie Horton cause of death-New Zealand philanthropist, Dame Rosemary Anne Horton was born on March 25th, 1940 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Horton grew up in Ashburton and was born to Olga Moon and Ellis Moon. We have no details about her siblings at the time of filing this report.

In February 1963 when Horton was almost 23 years of age, her mother, Ellis Moon died of breast cancer.

Horton was a librarian at UEB, a sizable multinational company in Auckland, when she was in her late 20s.

Horton served as a founding trustee for both the Auckland-based Starship Foundation and Friends of Starship. Along with launching the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, she also gave to the SPCA, the Salvation Army, and Women’s Refuge.

To honor Marcia Russell, a writer and journalist from New Zealand, Horton and her husband Michael founded the Michael and Dame Rosie Horton Prize at the University of Auckland in 2014.

In their second home in Australia, Horton and her husband accumulated more than 300 works of contemporary Aboriginal art. The Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney will receive the donation of the collection.

Horton was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal in 1990. She received the Queen’s Service Medal in 1993 as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honors for her volunteer work in the community.

She received a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order in 2004 as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honors for her volunteer work in the community.

She received the Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2011 as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her contributions to philanthropy.
