Rapper Yaa Pono has added a funny reaction to the trending infamous slap Will Smith gave to Chris Rock on stage while he was making what he interpreted as unsavoury remarks about his wife during the 94th Academy Awards.
While the issue assumes a pivotal role in all major discussions being tossed on social media, it has also attracted a flurry of reactions from Ghanaian celebs including Yaa Pono who emerged to add a new layer of perspective.
According to him, given Shatta Wale’s volatile nature, he is sure he won’t take long in replicating the same action to get his name on everyone’s lips just as his modus operandi stipulates. The Tema-based rapper then cautioned him never to do that regardless.
Meanwhile, the New York Post reports that Smith may be asked to return his 2022 Oscar Award for Best Actor following the smack he visited on Chris Rock’s face at the 94th Academy Awards for mocking his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith overusing the movie G.I Jane by referencing her bald head.
Will Smith and his wife initially laughed it off, but when Rock re-enforced the joke, Smith got up on the stage and gave him a hot slap on the face.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has strict guidelines in its code of conduct. According to The NY post, a top Hollywood source said: “It’s basically assaulting. Everyone was just so shocked in the room, it was so uncomfortable.”
“I think Will would not want to give his Oscar back, but who knows what will happen now.”
The publication also said it has reached out to the Academy over the matter.
The Academy, in its code of conduct released 2017 amid the sexual misconduct scandal that hit the industry at the time, emphasized the importance of “upholding the Academy’s values.”
