Popular Ghanaian gospel musician, Mercy Twum-Ampofo who is known as Ohemaa Mercy has shared her thoughts on the profitability of social media and CD sales.
It could be recalled that for some time now, there has been a debate on the challenges faced veteran musicians on the sales of music and the influence of social media.
The debate has been between the veteran musicians and the new musicians and according to the new musicians, social media has been of immense help, however, the veterans think otherwise as they claim it has collapsed the music business.
Speaking about this in a recent interview on Pure FM in Kumasi, Ohemaa Mercy said;
“By releasing single music, it helps us in the promotion and also increases the impact of the music you release.
The trend has changed and many things have changed in the music industry. Now the social media is so powerful therefore the avenue of social media including Youtube, iTunes among others make more sales than album sales and CDs. Releasing singles make it possible for you to get more money.”
