It is actually rare to see secular musicians bonding with gospel musicians so were surprised when Shatta Wale recently publicly acknowledged gospel musician SP Kofi Sarpong as his favourite gospel artiste.

The police officer cum musician ‘returned the favour’ by stating that he like likes Shatta Wale a lot. In an interview with citifmonline, the gospel musician said he was not surprised by Shatta Wale’s statement because they had been very good friends. However, he stated that he was honoured by the kind words from Shatta Wale.

“I was very happy. Shatta Wale is one of the few secular artistes I like so much. My favourite of his songs is ‘Kakai,

’ he said.

He added:“We have met several times and any time we have met, we discussed how we will come together to do a song together. So who knows? One day we may do a song together.”

SP Kofi Sarpong added that secular musicians are not evil so they must not be discriminated against.

I guess it’s only in Ghana that we play the hypocritical cards like no one business. The holier than thou attitude most of our gospel musicians exhibit is really appalling. They hate to associate themselves with secular musicians and decline to collaborate with them but secretly enjoy their music at home.

At least I know Nacee and SP Kofi Sarpong are just ‘real.’
