The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has disclosed that deferred students of the school misused monies for school fees.

Reports from the Academic Board of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in the early hours of Thursday released a statement disclosing that about 6,000 students were deferred over failure to pay fees.

It would be recalled that the authorities of the institution extended the deadline for fees paying from March 31st to April 11 in order for some of the students to fulfill their obligations however, most students were not able to make payments.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of KNUST, Dr. Daniel Noris Bekoe has said some of the students deferred because of the irresponsible spending of their fees. Speaking to Accra-based GHOne TV, the PRO stated that the school conducted an investigation before deferring students.

He stated that most of the deferred students invested their school fees on online betting, and buying vehicles for online ride-hailing services, bakeries, and other businesses.

“The problem we have now is that a number of students are playing games with the University. For example, they use their school fees to buy cars for Uber, others are using it to set up bakeries and others are using it for betting and we have evidence”.

“Some parents have even sent us audio where students have received the fees but refused to pay or simply trading with the money. He stated.
