Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician, Piesie Esther has said that award schemes; Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) and others only award artists who only criticize them.

According to the singer, some artists after failing to win an award the previous years grumble and lambast the VGMA board and then end up getting awards the following year.

The gospel artist who has been bagging a series of nominations at various awards schemes has failed to win any award. During an interview with Nana Adwoa Annan on Atinka TV, Piesie Esther was asked how she felt after failing to win an award, she said:

“Of course, I felt so bad for not winning … My family has been advising me not to think about it..they rather encourage me to work harder.”

Piesie Esther cited examples of such artists to defend her point. According to her, artists like dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, Patapaa, and reggae artist Ras Kuuku attacked the VGMA board after they failed to get an award after nominations and they received awards the following year.

Oh, yes…when I fail to win, I usually sit on the radio and vent my spleen… What I have observed is, artists who usually attack the schemes are awarded…they award the noise makers…those who make unceasing noise are the ones that they award the following year.”
