Is observing lockdown order in your own house a crime? … Are citizens the enemy or the virus?… It’s only a matter of time before the community starts fighting back and that will be the most disturbing thing to ever happen in Africa.

Videos circulating on social media shows the inhumane treatment security task force teams in Africa give to their fellow countrymen who defy or observe orders. The latest of them is a South African policeman, whipping a civilian mercilessly even after observing lockdown in his own yard. African soldiers have directed the fight towards their brothers instead of the virus.

People will defy orders but inflicting pain on the civilian won’t solve the problem. It’s in the capacity of the security officers to act responsibly by denying the civilian his/her request or make an arrest when the civilian resists restraining orders. Violence is not the answer.
