Tom Curran is the first of three sons birthed to former Zimbabwean international cricketer Kevin Curran and Sarah Curran. He first opened his eyes on March 12, 1995 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. His brothers are Ben Curran and Sam Curran, both of whom are cricketers also.

Curran had his early childhood and high school education in Springvale House Preparatory School in Zimbabwe were he grew up. He later enrolled at ST. George’s College in Harare, Zimbabwe where he excelled in cricket. A stellar few years career saw him move to Hilton College in South Africa and eventually to Wellington College in England.

Curran began his youth cricket career in South Africa with the KwaZulu-Natal Inland’s Under-15, Under-15 and Under-19 sides. While playing in the South African first-class league, he was spotted by former Surrey captain Ian Greig. In 2012, he got an invite to play for the Surrey XI and subsequently transferred to Wellington College in September of that year.

In August 2013, Curran made his senior debut in a List A game against Essex and his First Class debut against Cambridge University in April 2014. He made a return to South Africa in August 2017 for the first season of the T20 Global League after being named in the Cape Town Knight Riders.

Curran was selected for the England Performance Programme squad in September 2015, despite being eligible to play for both South Africa and Zimbabwe. He completed his residential qualification for the English side in October 2015.

On 26 December 2017, Curran made his Test debut against Australia, One Day International (ODI) debut against West Indies on 29 September 2017 and his Twenty20 International (T20i) debut against South Africa on 23 June 2017.

Curran has played in both the English, Indian and Pakistani cricket leagues, including Surrey, Sydney Sixers, Kolkota Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Oval Invincibles, Islamabad United and the Desert Vipers.
