Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo, often known as Epixode in the entertainment industry, has given an explanation for why the majority of the best-known Ghanaian performers aren’t signed to major worldwide record labels.

He stated “Have you noticed that the names which are taking Ghana music somewhere are all independent artistes but the question is how are they able to do that.

“When the labels are not able to do that and our system isn’t set such that it will support every part of the creative industry in the sense that if a manager takes it upon himself to help you that’s not a label,” he added.

He told Amansan Krakye the host “All these labels that you mentioned I stand to be corrected that most of these artistes on these international labels like universal records, Sony music are distribution deals and not 360 deals”.

In an exclusive interview with Cape Coast-based Kastle FM, Epixode said that in order to be well-informed, young Ghanaian musicians should understand how these foreign record labels function.

“These are some of the things upcoming artistes need to teach ourselves because there are a whole difference when it comes to dealing with labels.

“I don’t think Sarkodie has ever been approached with any of these deals but maybe personally looking at where he sets his mind but maybe the label isn’t ready to push him like that,” he explained on the show.
