Wiyaala has said she and Shatta Wale are getting paid at the 2022 SummerStage NYC contrary to claims that they have been booked to perform for free at SummerStage NYC by fans of rival musicians.

Moments after it emerged that Wiyaala and Shatta Wale are performing on the prestigious platform, some fans pooh-poohed the feat saying they have been contracted to perform for free.

Setting the record straight, however, Wiyaala said they are going to be paid and ultimately thrashing any further conversation in that regard.

SummerStage is an avenue for celebrating New York’s revival and the festival’s return to 12 local community parks across the city celebrating the city’s rich artistic culture by showcasing established and emerging artists, presenting distinctly New York genres including salsa, jazz, hip-hop, indie rock, reggae, Afrobeat, soul, pop and other genres.

Noella Wiyaala was born in Wa, Upper West Ghana as one of four sisters and grew up in Funsi and Tumu. She got first singing lessons from her mother, a choir singer in the local church, and she has performed ever since she was 5 years old.

Her surname, which she picked for a stage name, means “the doer” in her native Sisaala language.  During her late teenage years, she played football as a midfielder. She attended Kanton Secondary School and later Kanton Secondary High in Tumu, where she acquired a reputation for being a tom-boy, playing football and was in demand as a dancer and entertainer in school productions. She also attended Takoradi Polytechnic on an art and design course (Wikipedia).
