Actor and politician John Dumelo has said that the “Dumsor” vigil held during the tenure of former President John Mahama in 2015 by actress Yvonne Nelson was unnecessary.

In 2015, award-winning Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, organized a protest dubbed ‘DumsorMustStop Vigil’. Demonstrators march in Accra dressed in black and carrying torches and lanterns to signal their frustration with the erratic power supply.

In an interview on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Xtra Show, John Dumelo stated that the government was solving the power crisis before Yvonne Nelson led the protest so he finds her actions unnecessary.

“I don’t think it was necessary. At that time the government said it will fix the problem and before he [Mahama] left, he fixed it. I will not fault anyone, but you should have given him [Mahama] the due credit for solving it” he added.

John Dumelo has also thrown a challenge to the actress to stage another demonstration against the ruling party.

“They have to do another demonstration for the E-levy. I paid 5,000 cedis and paid almost 70-something cedis. If I am to send that amount every day, imagine how much I will have to pay as E-levy”, he said.
