This year’s Headies Awards saw one of the popular songs of renowned Nigerian instrumentalist, Fela Kuti being played.
The track in question is Zombie and this was used to support the recent #EndSARS protests that went on in Nigeria.
Nigerians hit the streets during the latter part of last year to protest against police brutality. The incidents really took centre-stage with the most talked about show being the one at the Lekki Toll Gate.
Released in 1977, the Zombie track by Fela Kuti addresses the police and other security agencies harassing innocent citizens.
To show their support for the protest, organizers chose the song as it gave the protests a correct representation.
