In 2001, beautiful Nigerian model, Agbani Darego was named as Miss World.

The Lagos-born lady before representing Nigeria at the global event won the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 2001 which was marred by controversies.

She was a contestant at Miss Universe and she even became the first Nigerian to place among the top 10 semi-finalists, finishing seventh overall.

She was also the only top ten contestants to wear a modest maillot as opposed to a revealing bikini during the swimsuit competition.

She earned a national honour of MFR and was even awarded an honorary chieftaincy by the Council of Chiefs of Lagos.

She went ahead to launch a style and fashion reality show Stylogenic on Nigerian television and due to her busy schedule, she had to quit schooling at the University of Port Harcourt.

She moved to New York where she was signed to Next Model Management, Ford Models, and Trump Models. She was enrolled at New York University to study Psychology, and she graduated in May 2012.

She got married to her longtime fiancee, Ishaya Danjuma who is the son of billionaire, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, in a ceremony held in Marrakesh, Morocco.
