Kukurantumi: Road To Accra

Kukurantumi: Road to Accra was produced in 1983 and it is said to be one of the first Ghanaian films to be aired on many European countries’ television. It was directed by King Ampaw and notable names in the movie include Sebastian Agbanyoh, Dorothy Ankomah, Charles Ansong, Amy Appiah, Samuel Kofi Bryan, David Dontoh, and Kwesi France.

The movie revolves around Addey who is a hard-working family man and makes his living driving a lorry between Accra, t he capital, and his small village of Kukurantumi. When he is dismissed from his job for reasons beyond his control, Addey arranges a marriage between his pretty daughter, Abena, and a rich, middle-aged businessman she doesn’t love.

Zinabu

Zinabu is a 1987 Ghanaian film and it was directed by William Akuffo and Richard Quartey. The movie tells the story of a witch converting to Christianity. It was shot in 1985 using a video camera, rather than a film camera and it became the first Ghanaian movie to be produced on video.

During the production of Zinabu, the Ghanaian government introduced a ban on video, in an attempt to curb the negative effect they thought unlicensed American and Chinese films were having on Ghanaian culture. This ban was lifted in 1987, largely due to the work of Akuffo.[1]

The film received its premiere at the Globe Cinema. The screening was designed to imitate a normal film screening: the video player was not visible to the audience, and Akuffo was in the projection room.

Matters of The Heart

Matters of The Heart is a 1993 Ghanaian movie that tells the love story that brought couples together and they enjoy themselves as they watch the movie. The movie is about two love birds who were madly in love with each other. The guy is known as Nico and he was madly in love with a lady known as Sekina. However, Nico’s family would not agree to the relationship between the two love birds with the reason being that Sekina was from a very poor background and Nico was from a wealthy family and his family. Some notable names are Grace Omaboe, Alexandra Duah, Augustine Abbey (Idikoko), Grace Nortey, Enoch Botchway, Mac Jordan Amartey, Adwoa Smart, Sheila Nortey, and Sarah Boison.

Escape To Love

This is a drama movie and it is about love. A young guy identified as Kwesi Aboagye was under severe pressure to get married. He meets Amina who has run away from a man she is betrothed to. Kwesi fights to keep Amina in spite of Amina’s angry mother and everything thrown in his way. The movie was directed and written by Ernest Abbeyquaye and some notable names are Grace Nortey, Sheila Nortey, and Mawuli Semevo.

I Told You So

This was produced in 1970 and it is a movie that portrays Ghanaians and their way of life in a satirical style. The movie is about the life of a young lady who did not take the advice of her father when about to marry a man. She had no idea about the man she was going to marry, but rather took her mother’s and uncle’s advice because of the wealth and power the man has.

She then realizes the man she is supposed to marry was an armed robber as this made her very unhappy. When her father asked what had happened, she replied that the man she was supposed to marry is an armed robber and her father ended by saying “I told you so”. Notable names in the movie are Bobe Cole, Margret Quainoo (Araba Stamp), and Kweku Crankson (Osuo Abrobor).
