The Texas Southern University announced that it would give a full scholarship to the 6-year-old daughter whose father was been killed by the Minneapolis Police Officer on the day he was laid to rest.
TSU’s Board of Regents posted on a social media saying it, “has approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna”.
“TSU’s executive and academic staff will prepare a place for Miss Floyd if she wishes to attend the University.”
George grew up in Houston but was born in North Carolina, where he graduated from Jack Yates High School in the shadow of TSU. Floyd died on May 25, 2020 while detained by police, later when he moved to Minneapolis.
On Tuesday, Floyd was laid to rest in Houston, his family members and other blacks who lost loved ones from police brutality came to pay their respect. He was buried next to his mother whom he repeatedly called for as he was dying.
