Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo has been forced to disable the comment section of her Instagram page after angry fans of Wizkid besieged her space and subjected her to verbal abuse after she won her 5th Grammy award over the weekend.
There has been intense debate online widely hovering over the Nigerian section or landscape of social media after the Beninese superstar swooped the Best Global Music Album for her song Mother Nature at the expense of the highly tipped Made in Lagos album by Wizkid.
The vociferous fans of Wizkid who are generically known as Staboy FC have since been disrespecting and dragging her hard-won reputation in the mud for the award shortly after she hit Instagram to display the plaque with a smile exuding contentment.
In order to safeguard her sanity, she has locked the comment section and it stands now, no one except herself can post comments.
Also wading into the debate of Wizkid missing out on two Grammys after he got nominated in two categories at the 64th Grammy Awards, American rapper Wale has shared his two cents about the trending issue.
In his opinion, Wizkid’s Essence featuring Tems should have bagged multiple awards at the 64th Grammys. Recall that Wizkid earned a spot in the Best Global Music Performance category, for his song, Essence.
His epic Made In Lagos album also made it into the Best Global Music Album category for albums containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental Global Music recordings.
However, he lost out on bo and this has caused much furore back on the Nigerian landscape of social media thereby attracting the attention of Wale who took to Twitter to write; ”Essence should have multiple Grammys .”
