The booming Nigeria Music Industry you see in its elegant state has not always been like this. Obviously, there have been generation to generation who  has passed through the grinding mill of the Nigeria Music Industry.

The generation of Fella Kuti and King Sunndy Ade’ has come to paid their dues in the growth of The Nigerian Music Industry that you have fallen in love it because of how beautiful it looks now.  

Fast ward in the early 2000 to through the middle up to date, a group of talented musicians cropped out in the industry and merged with the youth with good modern sounds and made history with their songs and artistic craft.

Such artistes are Wande Coal, Timaya, 2Baba, D’banj and Duncan Mighty, and K Cee.

After them are now a more refined talented artistes like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Simi, and Patoranking.

So, can we finally say the group of Wande Coal, Timaya, 2Baba, D’banj and Duncan Mighty and K Cee now old schools or they are still reining in the Nigerian Music Industry?

1 Wande Coal

Wande Coal

Born Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe, popularly known as Wande Coal, is introduced himself into the Nigerian Music Industry and was accepted by the people.

He got signed to Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records in 2006. He released his first studio album in 2009 and his latest album was dropped in 2020. Currently, he has 3 studio albums to his credit.

In as much as he is doing active music, it seems Wande Coal is not as much as popular when he was in his prime in 2006 and 2009.

2. Timaya

Timaya

Inetimi Timaya Odon, better known by his stage name Timaya, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is the founder of DM Records Limited. His solo career began in 2005 with the release of “Dem Mama”, which also appeared on his debut album, True Story released the following year

After the success of “Dem Mama”, Timaya decided to continue with producer K-Solo. He recorded seven more songs for his first album True Story, which was eventually released in 2007. Since then he released hits after hits and his career shot to the apex making him successful in the music industry.

Timaya have a total of 7 studio albums so far in his music career. They are Gift And Grace (2008), De Rebirth (2010), LLNP Long Life N Prosperity (2011), Upgrade (2012), Epiphany (2014), Chulo Vibes EP and True Story.

With all these work, it looks like the new school have outshined Timaya and he could be now considered as one of the OG’s in the Nigerian Music Industry.

3 2Baba

2Baba

Innocent Ujah Idibia, known by his stage name 2Baba, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, humanitarian, and activist. Prior to July 2014, he went by the stage name 2face Idibia to offshoot his music career.

2Face became an international musical icon after releasing “African Queen”.

He now have 7 studio albums in his name. His first album was released in 2004 Face 2 Face and the subsequent ones followed as 2006: Grass 2 Grace, 2009: The Unstoppable, 2010: The Unstoppable International Edition, 2012: Away & Beyond, 2014: The Ascension, 2020: Warriors.

We can see that he is still in the music industry and making songs and albums even in 2020. However, it seems 2Baba is not in his prime has dwindle and the young school has overshadowed him.

4 Duncan Mighty

Duncan Mighty

Born Duncan Wene Mighty OkechukwuIn 2006, he returned to Port Harcourt where he first rendered his services to record companies D Large Records and 360 Records, before partnering with celebrity jeweller Chris Aire to form AireMighty Records. His father Mr. Okechukwu passed on to the Afterlife in 2007.

After releasing hits after hits, He received three nominations at the 6th Annual NEA Awards in 2011 and won the “Indigenous Artist of the Year

In September 2012, Wene Mighty released Footprints, an 18-track album with guest appearances from Timaya, Shaggy, Otuu Sax, Sandaz Black and Wande Coal. He has been honored by the UN as a peace ambassador.

Duncan Mighty has 5 studio albums to his music career. Which are Koliwater (2008), Ahamefuna (Legacy) (2010), Footprints (2012), Grace & Talent (2014), The Certificate (2016).
