Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the member of parliament for Suame, who doubles as the Majority Leader in Parliament has stated that he is unable to construct roads.

Osei Kyei Mensah who was recently doused with sachet water by some craftsmen over broken pledges to rebuild the roads in his constituency, added that since it is not the responsibility of a legislator to fund infrastructure projects like roads, the constituents’ protests that led to his close call were unfounded.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu clarified the sometimes misunderstood job of an MP by saying that the best thing a lawmaker can do in this regard is to lobby for that development rather than providing it directly.

During an appearance on TV3, Berla Mundi questioned him about why MPs lie to their constituents about plans to build roads and launch other development projects when they know full well that they are prohibited from doing so by the law.

Osei Mensah Bonsu responded by blaming others rather than himself for doing that.

“I have never done that. It is because of the general approach, especially with those of them who want to succeed in becoming Members of Parliament, they will go and tell people that ‘have you seen your MP, he has been there for two terms, he has not been able to facilitate any development project and so vote me in and I will do this, I will do that.’ It is not your job.”
