A drug dealer who was dragged to court for his crooked ways has been slapped with a five-year jail term.

The 47-year-old man was tried in the Cookhouse Magistrate’s Court for dealing in drugs and he received his sentence on May 13.

He is identified as Pearston Harry Maart and news about his sentence was contained in a recent statement released by South African Police Service.

COOKHOUSE – On Thursday, 13 May 2021, Pearston Harry Maart (47) was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment in the Cookhouse Magistrate’s Court for dealing in drugs.

On Tuesday, 14 May 2019 at about 04.30 the accused was stopped and searched by Cookhouse Crime Prevention Unit members during stop and search operations.

On searching him, they found him to be in possession of 198 mandrax tablets with a street value of R 16 000.

The accused was arrested and detained.

The accused made his first court appearance on 15 May 2019 and was released on bail for the duration of the investigation.

The Cookhouse Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Ferreira commended Detective Sergeant Thembela Boy Nokhangela for the conviction.”
