Schools in Oyo State have reopened after the Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde ordered the reopening of schools.

However, the Federal Government has kicked against this move and has subsequently labeled it as an insensitive move that will put the health of the people at risk.

This comment was made by the Federal Minister of State for Education, Mr. Emeka Uwajiuba during the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 daily news conference.

He revealed that although the governor had the right to reopen the schools as he sees the need, however, the primary purpose of governance remained the security of its people.

He argued that there are over 138,000 schools across the country and for the governor to open the schools in the state was in the “very least insensitive”.

He advised parents to keep their children and wards under lock and key in order to prevent the deadly Coronavirus to spread like wildfire.
