On Monday, an unknown girl in Akerele area of Surulere, Lagos State was carried away by flood from a heavy downpour.

It was learned that the victim was trying to maneuver through the flood of which she fell into an opening beside the Surulere Plaza and the tide of the flood carried her away.

Some residents and passers-by who rushed to the scene to rescue the victim didn’t succeed on the rescue mission.

A local resident, Adekunle Shokefun, the girl fell into the canal because it was flooded everywhere.

He said, “What I found out from people in the area was that the incident happened around the canal beside the burnt Surulere Plaza. The girl fell into the canal and the flood swept her away. Up until this moment, the girl has not been found and I know her father”.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director-General, Lagos Emergency Management Agency said, “A 17-year-old girl, identified simply as Ayisat, was swept away by strong flood at Alapafuja area of the Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate.”
