Jatau Lydia Lami, a 35-year-old female passenger who was detained by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for drug trafficking, stated she intended to raise N5 million in ransom money to pay bandits who claimed responsibility for her actions.

On Sunday, July 31, 2022, the mother of three was apprehended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to export 1,700 Tramadol 225mg tablets that were hidden in her luggage to Istanbul, Turkey via a Turkish Airline flight.

The suspect, who now resides in Istanbul, Turkey with her family, comes from the Kaduna State LGA of Zango Kataf.

In a statement released on Sunday, August 7, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the suspect attributed her crimes to pressure to gather N5 million in ransom to release her mother from the bandits’ custody, who had been holding her hostage since June.
