An undergraduate student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State has been jailed.

This guy is a 500-level student of the institution who is identified as Adebowale Abiola and he will be spending the next one year in prison.

He was jailed by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Special Offences Court and this comes after he was found guilty to have been involved in a $104,500 fraud.

Per what we gathered, he was arrested after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stormed Lekki following a report they received about the activities of Internet fraudsters.

This student who presented himself as Burton J. Smith, a citizen of the United States of American and former military officer, defrauded an American known as Courtney Kaye.

After his arrest, he was arraigned on an amended one-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents containing false pretence and he pleaded guilty to the charge.

After pleading guilty, the prosecuting counsel, I. A. Mohammed then informed the court about the plea.

The presiding judge then proceeded to give her ruling and she sentenced him to one-year imprisonment with an option of N300,000 fine, adding that the N5m recovered from him be returned to the victim through the Federal Government.

Additionally, the black Mercedes Benz GLK, with number plate AKD 573 GK that was also recovered from the convict will be forfeited to the victim through the Federal Government.
